Education in Emergency

At CBI, we believe that education transforms lives and is a human right for all, hence our commitment to the Global Education 2030 Agenda through Sustainable Development Goal 4. Since inception, we have designed and implemented programs to provide quality education and strengthen education systems at the local and national levels. Our education interventions are tailored to respond to contemporary challenges combating the education and enlightenment of communities particularly in crisis-affected regions of Nigeria. We do this with gender equality as an underlying principle. So far, in Nigeria, our work has reached over 1,000 households and encompasses quality educational development from pre-school to higher education and beyond.

CBI’s educational programs are designed to address the unique challenges faced by communities in crisis situations, with a particular focus on out-of-school children and gender disparities in education. One of our flagship projects, provided integrated formal education for 10,000 out-of-school children in Borno State. This project exemplifies CBI’s approach to Education in Emergency situations, recognizing the critical need to maintain educational continuity even in challenging circumstances.

Our work in education is characterized by a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. We integrate our educational initiatives with other sectors, such as WASH programs in schools, to create more conducive learning environments. This multi-sectoral strategy enhances the overall impact of their educational efforts, addressing not just academic needs but also the broader factors that affect a child’s ability to learn effectively. In our ongoing collaboration with Sterling One foundation, we are integrating mother tongue learning approach with technology enabled system to enhance comprehension among primary school students in Maiduguri.

As a women-based organization, CBI is also committed to empowering women and girls through education. Our programs strive to improve access to education for girls and address the specific challenges that often prevent girls from completing their education in crisis-affected areas. This focus on gender equality in education is part of CBI’s larger mission to contribute to long-term social transformation by addressing gender inequalities.

CBI’s impact in the education sector extends beyond direct service provision. We also engage in advocacy and awareness campaigns. Among other projects, CBI launched a initiative against the increase in out-of-school children in Bauchi State in 2023, providing direct educational services to over 5,000 students while also advocating for systemic changes.

Our work in the education sector has not been without the aid of several national and international organizations. To amplify our efforts in the humanitarian sector, CBI has partnered with several organizations including ZOA International, Sterling One Foundation and the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund. By focusing on vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons and marginalized communities, CBI’s educational initiatives play a crucial role in ensuring that quality education remains accessible even in the most challenging environments, contributing significantly to the resilience and long-term development of crisis-affected communities in Nigeria.

At CBI, we are committed to seeing that every child is given the education he/she deserves.
