2.5 million children in Northeast Nigeria
are projected to face severe acute
malnutrition in 2025

No Child Should Starve. You Can Help Nourish Their Future.
In Northeast Nigeria, malnutrition continues to claim young lives and rob
families of hope. But with your support, we can change the story; one child at a time.

Three-year-old Mohammed Awal from El-Miskin, Borno, was dangerously thin, weak, and weighed just 9.3kg. His MUAC measurement read a critical 11.0cm — a sign of severe acute malnutrition (SAM).

Thanks to CBI’s Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP), Mohammed received 8 weeks of targeted nutrition support and care. By the end of his treatment, he was visibly healthier, weighing 10.7kg and with a MUAC of 13.4cm. His mother Hauwa received WASH supplies and nutrition counseling — and she now advocates for hygiene and proper feeding in her community.

You saved my son’s life. May CBI’s work continue to reach other mothers like me."
Mohammed Mum

Mohammed is just one of many.

In 2025, an estimated 2.5 million Nigerian children will suffer from severe acute malnutrition, most of them in the BAY states. But with collective action, malnutrition is preventable and treatable.

How We’re Fighting Hunger and Malnutrition

In 2024 alone, Care Best Initiative reached 37,082 individuals through a comprehensive nutrition program in Borno and Yobe States. This included 20,765 children diagnosed and treated for moderate to severe malnutrition and 16,317 caregivers empowered with life-saving Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) knowledge. Through an investment of $396,987.12, and the resilience of our field teams, we delivered critical services during the lean season

"When we brought Jiddum Gujja, he weighed just 8.1kg with a MUAC of 9.6cm. He was frail. But after treatment, he laughed, played, and gained weight. I thank CBI with all my heart."
– Inna Gujja, El-Miskin Community

According to the 2025 Humanitarian Needs Response Plan

Scaling Up in 2025
CBI is expanding its Nutrition Programme to reach 80,000 people across the BAY states.
